At least once a day someone asks “ How is the wedding planning coming along?” and for weeks I have been rack my brain for the right word to describe it. It’s a strange thing planning a wedding in a place like this. Where everything society tells you is essential to your “perfect day” is right at your fingertips. But just outside your door step a few weeks ago men, women and children where rioting because they had no access to water. A basic human necessity was not available to them, yet sparkly taffeta wedding dress, thousand dollar cakes and five star catering is available to me? …. Confusing I think might be the right word to describe it.

Tommy just returned from a trip where he walked the slums or Nigeria experiencing levels of poverty and vulnerability more terrifying and heartbreaking them you every want to imagine. And to turn around and ignore that is impossible. In planning our wedding we want to honor the call that He has places on our lives. We will have “our perfect day” but might look a little bit different that we had imagined. But God is so great that way!

The familiar words of 1 Corinthians 13 have new meaning to me since setting foot on African soil more them two years ago.

"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance."

My prayer for my life, my marriage, my family and my community is that I will show that kind of LOVE through every circumstance.
